Samenvatting

When patients experience severe emotional dysregulation and intense physical arousal, they can reach a point where treatments like Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT) are no longer effective. This article presents ReAttach, a brief and flexible approach that serves as a practical starting point for addressing this gap. ReAttach combines the Emotional Symptom Regulation Model (ESRM) with Mapping the Individual State of Mind (M.I.S.T.) to provide targeted support tailored to the patient's current state. Features such as the Forgive and Forget Hood (FFH) help break cycles of rumination, as seen both in changes in Q-EEG brain activity and in how patients quickly move from physical distress to feeling more in control. The New Mind Creation (NMC) protocol also encourages social understanding and secure attachment, even when patients are not ready to talk about their feelings. We describe a three-phase framework that first helps calm the body before moving on to reflective mental work, aiming to reduce therapy drop-out.
